Hua Hin International Film Festival

Posted on January 4, 2012

The National Federation of Thai Film Association has announced that the Hua Hin International Film Festival will be held from the 26th to 29th January, 2012 at various locations around Hua Hin, including the Intercontinental Hua Hin Resort, Major Cineplex Cinema, Vic Hua Hin Theatre and Centennial Park.

Over these four days, fifty movies are scheduled to be showed from both the Asian and international arenas. There will also be a series of seminars on film cooperation within the ASEAN region, as well as an exhibition to honour His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s photographic skills.

Hua Hin has been chosen for several reasons. First, it is a popular tourist spot with Thai people as well as the Royal Family. Its history is also heavily involved with the development of the Thai film industry as the first officially recognised Thai movie, Miss Suwanna of Siam, was filmed there in 1923.

The festival will boast several international guests, including a number of actors and directors. A special event celebrating Korean cinema will include appearances from famous superstars such as Se7ven, Lee Da Hae, So Ji Sub and Han Hyu Joo.

Scheduled films include ‘360’ from the USA, ‘KL Gangster’ from Malaysia, ‘Fool for Love’ from Vietnam and ‘Ways of the Sea’ from the Philippines. The most expensive Taiwanese film ever produced, ‘Warriors of the Rainbow,’ will also be screened. Finally, representing Korean cinema, the award-winning ‘Always’ will be shown. Of course, there will be many more films included in the schedule and more information is due to be put up on the festival’s official website in the near future.
