The Phuket Race Week regatta moves to a new home after its previous venue and sponsor, Evason Phuket & Six Senses Spa, announced it was closing later this month.

This year’s race will now be hosted at Cape Panwa Resort, 18 to 22 July, and will  adopt a new name, Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Race Week, to reflect the change.

The new owners of the former Evason Phuket sent messages to travel agents, earlier this month, advising them to find alternative accommodation as the property was closing later this month.

Organised by the branding firm, Image Asia Events , the resort hotel is now the major venue sponsor with support from its sister hotel, Kantary Bay Hotel. The race will continue to use  the same  circuit on Chalong Bay.

Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Race Week is open for registrations at http://www.phuketraceweek.com/registration.htm.

Up until 17 June, an early bird promotion applies of US$170 (around Bt5,100) including boat entry with six crew members. Rate after the early bird period are Bt12,000 for boat entry (all classes) and Bt4,200 for additional crew tickets.

There are two official accommodation options at Cape Panwa Hotel ranging from Bt3,500 to Bt8,500, while at Kantary the rate is around Bt1,200 to Bt1,900. Participants can book other hotels in the vicinity that are offering competitive rates.

About 40 yachts should join the race week, an event established in 2004.
