Phuket FM Radio And Sunsail Get Together To Promote Youth Sailing In Phuket

Phuket FM Radio Co Ltd broadcasting on 91.5 FM in Phuket and online at is excited and pleased to announce today in conjunction with Sunsail (Thailand) Co. Ltd their intention to sponsor a Phuket Youth Sailing Club Team at the 2012 Cape Panwa Hotel Phuket Raceweek taking place from 18-22 July.

Byron Jones for 91.5 FM says “this is one of the most exciting community projects 91.5 FM Phuket Island Radio have undertaken since its inception in 2008, 91.5 FM is delighted that Sunsail are joining with us in providing the boat, skipper and other necessary training and equipment, I am sure this is going to be a very memorable week for a lot of Thai youths that normally do not get to participate in major Asian regattas”.

KevinQuilty, Managing Director at Sunsail (Thailand) Co. Ltd says “it’s great to team up with 91.5 FM and to offer a brand new yacht for the Phuket Youth Sailing Team to participate in one of Asia’s most exciting regattas. I’m sure the youth team will enjoy the week and learn a great deal and hopefully go on to have successful careers in the Marine industry”.

Phuket Youth Sailing Team Vice President and coach Kathleen (Katy) Gooch is delighted saying  “the young sailors are really excited to have this opportunity and are looking forward to the challenge of racing on a 40ft yacht, most of the team are aged between 12 and 17 years and have recently had success in the Phuket Youth Games”

Grenville Fordham, MD of regatta organizers and rights holders IMAGE asia, said, “We’ve supported youth sailing in Phuket and Koh Samui over the past several yearsand it’s great to see that these kids who usually sail small dinghies are going to get a chance to race on a ‘big boat’ in a major regatta. It will be a new experience for them and will, hopefully, strengthen their passion for sailing.”
