Phuket Darkroom Club member, Nipon Intarit, will showcase his solo photo exhibition, ‘Fairytale’ on Saturday night at the newly renovated Memory at On On Hotel, and it will run until the end of the month.

Nipon, 34, and originally from Tak, is an airconditioner serviceman by trade but has been taking photos as a hobby since he was 23.

“I have no logic to describe why, but maybe I belong to the camera or the camera belongs to me,” said Nipon.

The exhibition contains black and white photos which have been taken in the old fashioned PDC way of using analogue cameras and then developed in dark rooms. The exhibition displays a wide array of dream-like shots aimed at ‘capturing childhood’.

“I use an analogue camera to challenge the world that is already moving too fast. A digital camera is too fast, but with an analogue camera you have a long time to develop the photographs and yourself much more.”

Shots include children in a housing project resting around ancient trees; and two little girls talking to their small pet – a squirrel they have captured and tied by its neck to a rope.

Another shot shows a baby swimming in the water, helped by his tattooed dad.

The location for the exhibition, the famous and newly renovated, Sino-Portuguese style Memory at On On Hotel in Phuket Town, is an apt location for the art exhibition in itself and according to ‘Joe’, Kyaw Kyaw Khine, the manager of the hotel, it will not be the last.

“Although the hotel has a long and stylish history and these art exhibitions are the first of its kind, the hotel aims to entwine the finest pieces of artwork with history of the hotel from here on outwards. This is only the beginning of many more exhibitions to come. The hotel will ensure that exhibitions are of the finest class.”

The grand opening of ‘Fairytale’ will be held at The Memory at On On Hotel on Saturday, October 5 at 6.30pm. The photographs will be on show until the end of the month.
