Absolute Review – A Spoonful of Sugar

Posted on October 25, 2013

Set back from the main road to Nai Harn Beach, A Spoonful of Sugar is a quaint little coffee shop that has fast become a favourite amongst the locals and tourists alike. A converted, antique-style white house with a wrap around porch in a lush garden, stopping here for a break almost feels like walking into a friend’s home. The interior is modest with retro furniture, kitsch antiques and local artists displaying their canvases on the walls. The charming owner Ploy, and her staff are all experienced baristas and quick to offer a smile and a recommendation. Curiously enough, the café gets its name from the fact that a spoonful of sugar, and only one, is used in all the freshly baked cakes and brownies.

The menu offers a variety of coffees, teas, protein shakes, smoothies, cakes, sandwiches, and recently, wheatgrass shots served with a fresh slice of orange. The shop’s operating hours are Tuesday – Sunday from 8:00am until 7:00pm. A Spoonful of Sugar offers free Wi-Fi, and it’s easy to loose yourself in the day munching on the cakes, sipping coffee, or relaxing with a book in one of the comfy chairs on the porch. For those of you looking to recapture childhood memories, there are two swings attached to a big, beautiful tree in the garden.

If you are in the Nai Harn area, A Spoonful of Sugar is a must stop for a coffee break. Recommendations include the Chai Tea Latte, the Pastrami Sandwich served on a baguette, and the Homemade Carrot Cake served with a carved carrot flower on top. The latter, we guarantee, is even better than your grandmother makes!
