The number of foreign tourists arriving in Thailand rose 23 percent to 7.8 million in the first three months of 2015, a spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism and Sports said on Tuesday.

Tourists from China, Malaysia, South Korea, Russia and Japan topped the list of visitors, Chanvit Polcheevin said in a statement.

The number of visitors jumped 37.8 percent to 337,000 in the first four days of April compared to the same period in 2014, with growth for the month seen at 25 percent, Chanvit said.

The tourist arrivals rose for the fifth straight month in February, up 29.6 percent from a year earlier, continuing to recover after an army coup last May ended months of political unrest.

The ministry expected full-year foreign tourist numbers to reach 28.8 million, generating an estimated 2 trillion baht ($61.43 billion) in tourism revenue, according to the statement.
