The 13th Phuket International Boat Show opens at Royal Phuket Marina tomorrow (Jan 7) to much fanfare, with Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada voicing his support for the highly anticipated event, which has become a benchmark expo putting Phuket on the map for boating excellence.
In his special “Welcome Letter” to attendees at the event, Gov Chamroen noted, “Phuket’s 13th International Boating and Lifestyle show – the Phuket International Boat Show (PIMEX) – has once again captured the imagination of the marine industry in the region. With over 90 companies represented and 40 plus state-of-the-art yachts exhibited in water, it is a showcase for local manufacturers, brokers, distributors and suppliers, and for investors from as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, throughout Asia, Europe, the UK and North America.
“Phuket is proud to be home to this prestigious event, which is Thailand’s first Boat Show since 2003 and the natural home for a leading marine industry event in the region. The show has shown steady growth since 2003 and the worldwide interest affirms the quality of the merchandise and services displayed.
“As an internationally acclaimed tourist destination, Phuket fully supports sustainable development and has recently won awards for its quality of hotels and beaches. The sea is the life-blood of the island and its economy, and the high quality of yachts operating in the vicinity is testimony to the faith that investors and local entrepreneurs have in the future of the island. It is, and rightly so, the hub of marine tourism in Southeast Asia.
The Thai Government recognizes the value of a healthy marine industry and encourages growth in its fiscal policy of zero import duty and local support for developing infrastructure.
“PIMEX is being staged in the Mediterranean-like setting of Phuket’s Royal Phuket Marina, famous for its beautiful ambiance and the number of fine restaurants bordering the yacht berths.
“During the four days of the show we hope you enjoy the spectacular selection of yachts and equipment on display. We also suggest you find time to sample the rest that this island has to offer.
“So to exhibitors we say good luck with your marketing; visitors enjoy your purchasing; but most of all enjoy your stay and take back fond memories of Phuket Island.
“We welcome you all.”
Andy Dowden, Managing Director of Andaman Marine Consultants, organiser of the Phuket International Boat Show, added, “Since the first show in 2003, PIMEX has grown and matured into a spectacular display of yachts, marine equipment and property and lifestyle products. It has become a key event in the industry calendar and attracts international exhibits as well as all the local dealers and brokers.”
This year there will be over 40 state-of-the-art yachts in the basin, some recently delivered to customers who bought at last year’s show and are now ready to join Phuket’s fleet of quality yachts.
“We have power yachts up to 32m in length as well as smaller vessels for the entry-level customers, Mr Dowden said.
“The line-up will resemble the dockside in the Mediterranean harbours, where the world’s yachting elite spend their summers. That lifestyle has arrived in Phuket and is here all year round.
Phuket’s major charter operators will be on hand to recommend the best island destinations for boating holidays of a lifetime.
“Those of you who already own boats will be able to see all the latest electronic equipment and hardware and maybe contemplate the upgrade you have been considering. Those yet to take the plunge will have the best opportunity to view all the options right here in Phuket’s wonderful setting at the peak of the season.
“We have several luxury villa projects on view and this year we will also have international property agents offering investment opportunities.
“The show will be open into the evening each day and the fine waterside restaurants will be buzzing with enthusiastic visitors and live music.
“There is something for all to enjoy and all visitors will have the opportunity to take away substantial valued vouchers for Phuket’s leading restaurants and beach clubs.
“We extend a warm welcome to all our exhibitors and visitors and hope you find the solutions to making your Phuket Island Lifestyle complete.”
