Thai airports enjoy strong traffic

Airports of Thailand reports strong increases in both aircraft movements and passengers during January at six airports under its management.

AoT released details, late last week, showing airports served 10,919,001 passengers in January an increase of 14.70% from 9,519,564 during the same month last year.

Meanwhile, overall aircraft movements grew 10.06% from 61,503 to 67,690.

The country main gateway Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport recorded 5.11 million passengers followed by Don Mueang with 2.99 million and Phuket 1.42 million. Chiang Mai Airport handled 888,827 passengers.

January highlights

Suvarnabhumi Airport registered an increase of 5.82% in international aircraft movements from 21,033 to 22,257, while domestic movements rose 11.07% from 6,073 to 6,745 movements.

International passenger traffic increased 6.23% from 3,961,414 to 4,208,066, while domestic passenger traffic increased 12.86% from 802,926 to 906,180. Overall, there was a 7.34% increase in passenger traffic from 4,764,340 to 5,114,246.

The second aviation gateway, Don Mueang Airport, recorded a 35.78% increase in international aircraft movements from 4,829 to 6,557. Domestic movement posted a 7.13% improvement from 13,116 to 14,051.

International passenger traffic increased 53.45% from 636,615 to 976,882, while domestic passenger traffic increased 19.20% from 1,691,906 to 2,016,704.

Chiang Mai International Airport continued to show growth in January. International movements registered an increase of 19.61% (1,336 to 1,598), while domestic aircraft movements posted a slight improvement of 0.64% (4,349 to 4,377).

International passenger traffic grew 27.64% from 161,021 to 205,529, while domestic traffic gained 12.57% from 606,983 to 683,298.

Phuket International Airport registered an increase of 11.78% in international aircraft movements from 4,176 to 4,668, while domestic aircraft movements improved 24.05% from 3,260 to 4,044.

International passenger traffic increased 17.93% from 688,968 to 812,507, while domestic improved 18.43% from 520,597 to 616,527.

Chiang Rai International Airport reported an increase in aircraft movements of 1.04% from 1,249 to 1,262, while passenger traffic grew 15.42% from 162,650 to 187,727.

Hat Yai International Airport reported aircraft movements increased 2.35% from 2,082 to 2,131 in January. Meanwhile, overall passenger traffic registered a 6.67% growth from 286,484 to 305,581 passengers.  inside-no-21
