Phuket’s Baan Rim Pa restaurant has won the top prize in the People’s Choice awards for Best Restaurant in Thailand as voted by Chinese tourists at a Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) gala awards ceremony held in Bangkok last night (June 27).

“For more than 26 years Baan Rim Pa has been a major player in the restaurant business in Phuket. This award shows all the hard work that the team continue to do and they are all thrilled with the achievement,” Sue Ultmann, Executive Manager and Marketing Director of the Baan Rim Pa Restaurant Group, told The Phuket News from Bangkok today.

The gala event was held at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, where prize winners in 17 tourism-related categories received their awards, handed out in person by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn.

The awards, launched on June 6, aimed to garner vital feedback from Chinese visitors about the things they like most when visiting Thailand. Tourists voted on Thai attractions in 17 categories including: destinations, tourist attractions, hotels (luxury, boutique, city and beach), airlines, restaurants, spas, medical, shopping areas, shopping malls, shows, festivals, food, fruit and golf.

Votes were cast on the website http://www.peopleschoiceawardsthailand.com from June 7 through June 19, with a 3,239,362 people participating in the voting, reports China Daily.

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said, “Tourists from China made up the largest group of visitors to Thailand for travel and leisure in 2015. We want to tailor our services and attractions to meet their needs and expectations.

“The ‘2016 People’s Choice Awards Thailand Voted by Chinese Tourists’ will give the tourism industry valuable feedback and allow our Chinese guests to win the chance to come back to Thailand. This special awards project follows the success of The Best of Thailand Awards Voted by Chinese Tourists initiative held last year and was well received by Chinese tourists”.
