Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand will support the second edition of the Thailand Yacht Show, 15 to 18 December at Ao Po Grand Marina, Phuket.
TAT governor, Yuthasak Supasorn, said the event will build confidence, strengthen, business opportunities and support the development of yacht tourism in Thailand.
“The event will help to encourage more revenue for the country’s tourism industry and help spread income to the relevant sectors across the nation,” he said.
Phuket already has a long-standing yacht show organised by the private sector.
The first edition of the government sponsored show was held last February.
Promotional blurbs claim the Thailand Yacht Show was created to make Thailand the principal destination for yachting in Asia, and the winter destination of choice for super-yacht owners and charterers worldwide.
It will also promote Phuket as a “Marina Hub of ASEAN”. The island has three marinas, but only one can accommodate super-yachts.
The yacht market in Phuket grew 3% to 5% from 2015 to this year, compared to 3% growth for the period 2006 to 2014.
Over 40 exhibiting companies were presented at the first edition promoting equipment suppliers and charter brokers to resorts and luxury lifestyle brands. The event attracted 4,700 participants.
